Shore Cultural Centre of Euclid
The Grand Lady on the Triangle

The Shore Cultural Centre Board of Trustees is a non-profit organization with a 501-C3 status and a mission to serve the community on a cultural, civic, education, recreational and economical basis in the Shore Cultural Centre.  The Centre is a beautiful building listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Euclid Chamber of Commerce presented the Shore Cultural Centre with the Chamber's Community Asset Award in 2001, 2002 and 2003.

Mission

The Shore Cultural Centre Corporation is an Ohio non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation organized under Chapter 1702 of the Ohio Revised Code, and doing business as the Shore Cultural Centre of Euclid.  The Shore Cultural Centre of Euclid, located at 291 E. 222 Street, is a community center that has become home to a rich variety of civic, social, educational, cultural, entertainment and athletic activities enjoyed by the people of Euclid and surrounding communities.

Overview

The Shore Cultural Centre’s Board of Trustees has been active at Shore since its acquisition from the Euclid City School District in 1986.  The abundance of activities taking place over the years has engendered an increasingly great public interest in Shore and a broadening and deepening loyalty. Without question, this building constitutes a primary asset of our community and must remain in public ownership. We seek above all to expand and enrich our offerings to the public.

The Board of Trustees accepted the responsibility of managing the class programming from the Recreation Department in 2003.  It has successfully raised funds to pay the teachers, publish catalogs of events and activities and hire a program director.  We have also purchased technical equipment and employed fiscal services as needed.

With control of the building in a new atmosphere of permanency, the Board of Trustees expects  to attract more prime tenants entering into long-term leases, and enjoy a substantial increase in income. Increased rental income will go far to cover expenses for improvements to the building and its auditorium, and to facilitate expanded programming and improved service to benefit the people of our city. We are committed to fulfilling our mission and shall strive to meet the needs of all citizens --- cultural, recreational, educational, civic and social.

Our belief in citizen-ownership of the Centre has been confirmed by the experiences of a number of successful efforts by other groups of private individuals within our city.  An example of that  is the commendable work of our Friends at the Henn Mansion, who have accomplished a near miracle by their dedicated restoration of this important Euclid landmark.

Shore Cultural Centre is an intellectual, cultural, social and community home for many. Shore is home to the Euclid Orchestra, Upstage Players, Euclid Adult Literacy Education, Love ‘n Care Day Care Center, Euclid Hunger Center, ethnic dancers, and many more arts and cultural groups. It is also a place of worship for many. We must preserve this irreplaceable and prized resource for the benefit and enjoyment of current and future generations.

Economic Impact of the Shore Cultural Centre

As a vital anchor, the Shore Cultural Centre exerts a powerful economic impact on the fortunes of Downtown Euclid.  More than 1,000 plus people per week utilize the building, most of whom would not come into the area if it were not for the activities at the Centre.  Shore’s visitors patronize local restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores and other retail and service businesses before and after activities in the building. The severe negative impact resulting from a weekly loss of more than1,000 potential customers per week could literally cripple business in Downtown Euclid.

The Shore Cultural Centre is a strong anchor for Downtown Euclid. As more activity for the Centre is generated, the economic impact will increase.  Extended hours will bring more people into the Centre, thus drawing more and more potential customers to Downtown Euclid.
